Rare Christofle Bowl – Christian Fjerdingstad – Art Deco – Silver-Plated – c. 1925

€950,00

This silver-plated fruit bowl/centerpiece bears the signature of Christian Fjerdingstad (1891-1968), Danish designer and silversmith, a key figure of Art Deco at Christofle.

Based in Paris, Christian Fjerdingstad began his collaboration with Christofle in 1924 and took part in the house's aesthetic renewal between the wars. His work is characterised by bold, clean geometric forms, perfectly representative of the Art Deco aesthetic.

This piece, dating from the 1920s, stands out for its particularly architectural composition: a wide, shallow circular bowl rests on a flared foot, while two striking flat ribbon handles rise on either side of the basin and curl into a scroll at their ends.

The contrast between the restraint of the bowl and the highly graphic design of the handles gives this piece an instantly recognisable silhouette.

The pattern is documented in the literature devoted to Christian Fjerdingstad, notably in the exhibition catalogue Amber and Silver – Christian Fjerdingstad, a Danish Silversmith.

The piece bears the CHRISTOFLE marks and hallmarks under its base, as well as the number 30, visible in the photographs.
