6 Orbrille Table Knives - Solid Silver Handles - Minerva Hallmark
This set of six large antique table knives bears the signature of the Orbrille silversmith house, with filled solid silver handles bearing the Minerva hallmark.
The tapered handles carry a Louis XVI relief decoration: an outline of threads, a leafy branch descending from the ferrule and a crossed-ribbon bow at the base. They are "filled": two die-stamped silver shells soldered together and filled with a mastic, which explains why they weigh less than a solid handle. The central section is left free of any monogram, making these knives easy to combine with an existing canteen or antique service.
Each handle bears the French Minerva hallmark, as well as the silversmith's maker's mark.
The knives retain a very fine presence and reflect the craftsmanship of antique French silversmithing.
