Set of 6 Christofle Méribel Ice Cream Cups – Silver-Plated – c. 1950
This set of six silver-plated ice cream cups, Méribel pattern, illustrates the refinement of mid-20th-century French tableware.
This cup shape appears in Christofle's historical documentation as early as 1947, under reference A-467, before becoming known as Méribel in the 1950s. The pattern also appears in Christofle's 1960s documentation.
Each cup shows a particularly clean line: a hemispherical bowl on a slender stem marked by a collar, set on a circular foot outlined with a thread. The restraint of the design highlights the shine of the silver-plate and reflects the elegance characteristic of Christofle's creations from this period.
The pieces bear the CHRISTOFLE marks and hallmarks, as well as the O.C. quality hallmark and the number 5, visible in the photographs.
These cups were intended for serving ice cream, sorbets and desserts and today make a fine collector's set for a refined table.
