Christofle Covered Vegetable Dish – Luc Lanel – Reeded Round Handles – Art Deco – Silver-Plate

€575,00

This covered vegetable dish in silver-plate is a design by Luc Lanel for the House of Christofle. As Christofle's head of design, Luc Lanel was one of the leading figures of Art Deco in French silverware; he is known in particular for the America and Atlas flatware patterns.

The design is remarkably restrained, typical of 1930s Art Deco. The round, smooth body with a mirror polish is highlighted below the rim by a band of parallel reeding. The two solid round handles repeat this decoration in concentric reeding. The slightly conical lid is edged with the same reeding and topped by a ringed spool-shaped finial crowned with a reeded disc. The finial is screwed on, with its nut visible inside the lid.

The piece is signed CHRISTOFLE under the base and bears the hallmark with the chess knight and the letters OC, used by Christofle from 1935. The absence of the number I or II, added to this hallmark from 1983, places its manufacture between these two dates. The numbers 3 and 0 are also struck in two squares. The marks are visible in the photographs.
